OVERVIEW

The Pirelli P Zero Run Flat (OE) is a high performance summer run flat tire manufactured for passenger vehicles. This model is the original equipment tire of select vehicles.

The tire ensures its excellent summer weather traction. Its special silica and carbon black mix tire compound and the asymmetric tread design work together to boost the dry and wet weather road gripping ability. The compound prevents heat build-up at high speeds, while the tread design with the lateral siping detail firmly grips the dry and wet weather road surface. The tread design’s three circumferential grooves actively prevent hydroplaning by dispersing water and slush from below the tire’s footprint. The model, however, is not suited for winter weather, as the compound and tread design are unable to provide traction on ice and snow.

The model’s reinforced internal structure allows it to be driven on after air pressure loss. When air pressure leaves the tire due to a puncture or other damage, the tire’s structure withstands the weight of the vehicle and its passengers. In other words, it can be driven on for 50 miles up to the speed of 50 mph. This prevents the driver from being stranded on the side of the road. Instead, they are able to drive to a near location where they can change or fix the tire. Run flat tires are usually manufactured for vehicles without space for a spare tire. They cannot be mixed with regular tires as their internal construction makes them heavier.

The asymmetric tread design also enhances the model’s controllability. The constant road contact of the three center ribs increases the steering responsiveness and driving stability. The tread’s lateral siping detail increases the braking capability by creating friction at the moment of braking. This shortens the braking distance significantly. The shoulder tread block design heightens the number of biting edges firmly gripping the road surface during cornering and maneuvering. In this manner, the tire’s controllability, braking ability and cornering capability are upgraded to ensure a safer performance.

The P Zero Run Flat (OE) offers a longer lasting tread life. The asymmetric tread design optimizes the tire’s road contact and, with it, manages to evenly distribute the driving pressure across the tread area. The equally spread out forces of acceleration, cornering and braking lengthens the tread life by preventing irregular tread wear formations. The compound silica molecules, on the other hand, manage to slow the tread wear rate down significantly, lengthening the tread life and the tire’s usability.
